Shimano cassette?
I am bearing in mind upgrading my road wheels. Would I need a special tool to remove and install my rear cassette? If so, is it an overpriced tool or is it cheaper to just take it to my bike shop and have them do it?
Buy the tools trouble - It will always be cheaper.
You will need a freewheel extractor (looks like a big nut with a small rod sticking out of it)
A chain mesmerize. (looks like a small bar with a short length of chain attached.) This is to hold the rear sprockets whilst you invalidate the cassette.
You should be able to buy this from Halfords or your local bike shop and shouldn't cost more than 20 Quid!
Changing a cassette will take about 20 minutes.
(this includes removing and refitting locale of course)

Miche’s Primato cassette continues the groupset’s notion of high performance, precision engineering and very keen pricing. With it’s high lustre chrome complete and a choice between Shimano and Campagnolo patterns it’s a great choice for racing, audax, winter training, and even a besmirch of light touring.
Emerging from the understated packaging, the mirror finish is mesmerising, yet closer inspection and riding in wet, coastal conditions with minutest lubrication suggests it’s sufficiently hardy for four seasons’ service. Curiously, while obviously machined to deliver weight, the mid cluster of sprockets are drilled, reminiscent of a bygone era.
Our 12-25 ten speed cluster coupled with the Miche Horse-race Evo provided nigh on perfect ratios for my style of fast paced road riding-up hill and down dale, laden or otherwise. Direction a 700x23 wheel/tyre comb along with a 53X36 chainset equated to gearing between 37.8 and a whopping 116.1 inches while a packed triple would provide a useful bail out for weary legs and/or hauling trailers/tag-alongs in more mountainous regions. Being a cassette means not only pliant replacement of favourite ratios but easy tweaks to suit conditions.

You can adjust a Shimano cassette 8 shooting in the city to fly a 9, but not named. You will find a diversification although prices of the degrees of divergence of 9 go like a bat from hell, but it is usually down to load and materials. Although teeth are cheaper cassette unlovely a grain of while higher grades have cuts (holes) and / or lighter construction. Hm. 12-23 is (for me) a serious health cassette territory. Compared to the old cassette, he ignored his two lowest gears. If you are a cyclist is inconclusive or lead a horse especially in the plain that you should be OK, though.I also go (as you mentioned) by a concatenation of overcoming lift slightly, but not raze more sustainable as they are (in my sense) designed primarily to be called and not bulky.
